"Ganga Aarti, Haridwar" (2005) - To experience and photograph the Ganga Aarti (Obeisance to Ganges) at Har-Ki-Pauri at Haridwar was sublime. Ganga Aarti is a daily ritual on the banks of the river Ganges in northern India. As dusk falls, pilgrims, tourists and local priests gather at the riverbank to worship the Ganges river, fondly known locally as ‘Ganga-ji’. Earthen lamps (Diyas) and flowers are set afloat amid chanting of mantras and bell chimes, in a serene ambiance. No amount of words can accurately describe the actual experience, but this is as close to the real thing as I could capture with the dual constraints of low light and hand held photography.
